ROOT CANALS

ROOT CANALS

Root canals are necessary procedures if you have recurring inflammation or infection of the tissue inside the tooth. This type of infection can occur when you have a cracked, broken, or even a loose filling. The solution to the problem is to drill a small hole in the tooth, extract the pulp or soft tissue inside the tooth, clean the inside, and replace the pulp with a rubber-like material known as gutta-percha. If your tooth seems to lack stability, the dentist may choose to insert a post into the tooth. This prevents the tooth from caving in on itself. The tooth is either filled or capped with a crown before you can return to regular use of the tooth. When teeth are determined by Dr. Hollar to need root canal treatment, most cases are referred to an endodontist, a dentist who specializes in root canal therapy.
