Sealants are a preventative procedure. Actually,
sealants are much like flowing "super glue" into the
grooves of back teeth. Before flowing the sealant
into the grooves, the grooves are thoroughly cleaned
and all plaque, stain, and food removed. Then the
sealant is applied and hardened with a special light,
preventing harmful substances from occupying those hard-to-clean grooves.
Keeping the food, plaque, and stain out of the grooves stops the first step in the chain of events that leads to decay.
